Sometimes songs that are meant to be serious turn out really dumb (list your own examples). But fortunately, sometimes songs that are supposed to be dumb or goofy actually turn out to be pretty cool. This can be especially true of comedy songs used in movies or TV shows.
So today, I would like to pay tribute to all the ridiculous songs that somehow turned out to actually be pretty cool..
Here are 2 of my favorites:
5000 Candles In The Wind from Parks & Rec (TV series)
Pawnee’s favorite horse had died, but Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) memorializes it with this now (sort of) classic song.
WordPress won’t let me embed the video, but click the “Watch on YouTube” link to see Andy’s performance at Li’l Sebastian’s funeral.
Misbehavin’ from The Righteous Gemstones (HBO series)
Aimee Lee and Baby Billy’s big hit from their days as a brother-sister duo of singing evangelists.

While it may be at odds with your self-declared status as an Old Man, you are also a musician, meaning that you – presumably – still maintain an ability to stay awake after WGAL’s local weather on a Saturday night. Though I lack musical talent, I possess said ability and exercise it to the fullest.
Thus, let me put in a plug for Saturday Night Live’s brilliant musical parodies. There’s one almost every week, and the mind boggles at the quality of the writing and production values that they manage under their given time constraint. There are lots to choose from, but the one that often comes to mind is Pete Davidson’s “Walking in Staten”, a parody of the Marc Cohn hit from the last century. It seems to have been scrubbed from YouTube, but it’s still on SNL’s Twitter feed –
If you have the time, MsMojo has put together a sampler that’s a pretty good cross section of their offerings, though I would swap her #1 and #2 on my list. One surprise for me was the number of these that got Emmy and Grammy nominations –
