You might see them as you drive or walk through your town.  They’re often cold and hungry, and they could use some help.  They are the homeless.  Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, the help that’s offered through local agencies and shelters doesn’t get to them.  In my home city of Lancaster, PA, that’s where Dave Costarella and his “My People On The Streets” project comes in.

Dave cares for the people who remain on the street.  He’s not part of an organization or group, he’s literally a community super hero; an unaffiliated do-gooder trying to keep people alive and make their lives better.

Each year my family records a Christmas song and releases it as a fundraiser for either a non-profit or for some other worthy cause. This year, we’re giving the money to Dave for “My People On The Streets”.

Our version of Snowfall features a brand new arrangement I wrote, and some pretty close jazz harmonies sung by my daughters Bailey & Ally. Tom Herr (Bailey’s boyfriend) played guitar and bass, and I added flugelhorn and percussion. This is the fifth year of our annual holiday releases, and so far we’ve raised about $4,000 for groups both local and national

Snowfall was originally written by Claude & Ruth Thornhill in 1941 and has been covered by many artists since then.
