We hear it over and over again- the natural environment is an intricately interconnected web where everything is critically linked to everything else. Yet, we ignore this as we misuse the earth’s resources, alter animal populations and reshape the land. But changes to the ecosystem can lead to outsized results, as in the case of the wolf.
At one point, humans had basically extincted the wolf from Yellowstone National Park. But wolves are very valuable in a number of ways. Their absence from the park had a giant effect of the ecosystem, and so has their return. This very short TikTok video tells the story:
Nature is awesome if we just let it do its thing!

It is sad to see wild animals become extinct.

It sure is- but stories like this are a reminder that we can set things right if don’t wait too long.

Indeed: I recently saw a clip about how trophy hunting in Africa actually helped the rhino population GROW significantly! Counterintuitive? Perhaps, but because it became an income source for the locals and for conservation efforts, locals have a vested interest in setting aside land and protecting those animals, who are otherwise seen as invading humans’ lands by the locals. They protect the animals from even the poachers, and trophy hunting is well regulated. Who would have guessed?
