I spend almost zero time on Facebook. When I do go on, it’s usually just to post something about one of my gigs or to share a recent blog article; heaven forbid if the steady drip of social media self-promotion be stopped!
If I do accidentally linger too long, the mistake is usually realized when I see that yet again, some fool has posted some half-baked political nonsense and is arguing about it with anybody who takes the bait.
But yesterday I stumbled across something I really love! Facebook served it up to me as Memory post from long ago- 12 years ago, to be exact.
At that time, both of my daughters were in high school; Bailey as a senior and Ally, a junior. Both were in choir and had auditioned for one of the “solo spots” that took place in between bigger acts on the program. It’s still one of my favorite things the kids ever did! In fact, I’m pretty sure I blogged about it a few years ago but I can’t find any record of it, so I’m going on full speed ahead here…
I found this catchy old track on a CD somebody gave me and pitched the idea to the kids. They choreographed the dance moves and worked out the vocal parts. Tom, (Bailey’s boyfriend at the time who she now owns a house with) and I spent an hour or two in a recording studio doing our best to scrub the track of the original vocals, and replace the holes with various other sounds like trumpet and percussion, and blending it all into the track. This was in the days before an AI program could scrub the track almost instantly.
What resulted was this super-fun little performance which makes me smile every time it comes up. I hope you like it too!
Since WordPress is being difficult, click the the blurry pic below or these words right here to see what I’m reminiscing about..

Bailey is going to turn 30 in a few days, and Ally is 27. Both still perform and are doing very well as teachers (voice, dance). But sometimes a little trip down memory lane is fun too!
