Schools, school and more schools! As I mentioned recently, I’m leading a brass group called Music In The Schools, which makes musical presentations to elementary school students. We did a bunch of these last month but this month we went crazy, average about 9 schools per week. I jokingly (sort of) complained all month about having to be somewhere before 10am each morning, but really, these school gigs are good for me because they help me get through March, which can be long, boring and grey sometimes.
March 1- My first gig back with Bravura Brass, a group I started in 1991, played with for 20 years, left for 15, and came back this month. Lancaster, PAMarch 2- Oh my- this stuff is dangerous! Lititz, PAMarch 3- Two more school assemblies leading our presentation on Brass & Percussion. Quarryville, PAMarch 4– two more school presentations…Mountville & Roherstown, PAMarch 5– I love going to Fulton Theater but this show was LAME!!! Hotel Hershey, Hershey, PAMarch 8- Fever Pitch rehearsal with guest stars Emmett & Keith for an upcoming gig. Mountville, PAMarch 9- Thanks to Music Performance Trust Fund for providing the grant that enables us to perform at all these elementary schools- 2 more today! Lampeter, PAMarch 10- Everybody loves Costco! Lancaster, PA March 11- Tourists love the covered bridges that dot Lancaster county- I do too! This one is about 5 miles from my house. Lititz-ish, PAMarch 12– our pipe burst Feb 1 and we’re finally getting it fixed! Lititz, PAKitchen closed while all the bathroom stuff gets stored in it😅March 13- John warming up on the “hose-a-phone” at one of our 3 school performances today. Denver, Adamstown & Reamstown, PAthen to a Funktion gig at Hollywood Casino York, PAGig food: Sean is happy for the pizza- Mike looks he got caught!March 14- the famous Hershey Chocolate World ride. Gap, PAMarch 18- We wanted to watch the thousands of migratory birds come back to their “lake hotel” for the night, but it turns out most of them flew north a few days ago. This poor guy missed the bus with a damaged wing. We alerted the park wildlife crew. Middle Creek Wildlife Area, PAAnother cool- looking tree in perfect sunset lighting. Still Middle Creek.March 19- Tam trying to repair our MPTF banner (they fund our school performances) before it literally falls apart. She saved it! Lititz, PAMarch 20– We did 7 more school presentations this week and were finally able to get an action shot. Akron, PAA stubborn flock of turkeys partially blocked the road on the way home. Later, Mom gave Tom the traditional birthday ear pull for his big 3-0! 😁 Lancaster, PAMarch 21- Outside- a beautiful sunset…York, PaInside… it’s the Fox Hunter’s Ball!….With the best cookies ever…..And a gig with The Funktion Band! You pack so much fun into one month, honestly! Love alllllll the pics…and you have the best deadpan expression in some of them. Love it! And that bare, dead tree? Ohhh. Love it, too. Like you, I dunno why. Love the covered bridge…we’ve got one near us, too! But wowza…sorry about the plumbing challenge. Here’s to a great month ahead. Already looking forward to the next photo journal! 💝😊💝
Thanks Vicki! I appreciate you supporting me with these monthly photo dumps 😅 I love a dead pan expression – in fact, my daughters tell me that I do it all the time even when I think I’m actually smiling 😁 I’m glad to finally have that plumbing problem fixed.
So you guys have a covered bridge in your area? Do you have Amish out there?
Does Rick’s green trombone work better than the green trumpet you had that you threw in the trash?
I think you and I feel the same about March but wow, you really know how to do a lot of great stuff in a month! I love the beautiful sunset — and the cool tree lit by the sunset. Wow!
Yeah March can be a long one- but these school assembly gigs really kept things moving. Great memory about the green trumpet – and yes- the green trombone worked waaaay better! It was even made of plastic! 🤯 Thanks for checking out the pics!
