Well, it depends on what you consider jazz versus pop songs- but I’m not one to split hairs. To me the songs below have the same feel as standard jazz ballads and that’s good enough for me!

Since we visited Memphis over the summer and did all the Elvis stuff, I find myself listening more the Elvis station on Sirius radio and discovering some great music I either overlooked or never heard before. Recently I stumbled across this track from 1963 and was surprised to hear how Elvis’s approach reminded me a bit of Chet Baker- not what I expected from The King!

Prince’s father was a jazz musician, and some sources say his mother was a part-time jazz singer- so it’s not a surprise that he recorded at least a few tracks in that style. Silver Tongue was released to streaming services in 2024, about 8 years after Prince’s death.
