Ally got married this month! A bunch of other stuff happened too but when your daughter gets married- that gets the headline. 😎
Seriously though, August was a great month. It did seem a bit long because there was so much happening and a lot of car miles- but it was all good! I’m a bit tired but grateful.
August 1– accidentally quoting Stevie Wonder’s Part Time Lover at a Jazz On King gig at Tellus 360 in Lancaster, PA
August 2– My new band, Fever Pitch, played our first big wedding gig. Here are the parent dances. The bride played the piano opening to the song herself! Philadelphia, PA
This song was a new one for us but we like it! The mother of the groom used it to rock the groom to sleep when he was a baby.August 3– Dog sitting the backyard-loving CaseyPup! Lititz, PAAugust 4– Top Golf with Doug, Kris and Tammy! King of Prussia, PAAugust 5- You never know what you’ll see on a run. Lititz, PAAugust 6– drove to Bethlehem to pick up the vegan wedding cake and “had to” stop next store at The Cup for some serious ice cream. Bethlehem, PAAugust 7 – Wedding rehearsal!! Intercourse, PA The soon-to-be-newlyweds at their rehearsal dinner on Tellus 360’s rooftop lounge. Here we go! Lancaster, PAAugust 8– It’s wedding day for Ally & Alec! Here are our girls and their guys. More wedding photos at this post.Intercourse, PAIt’s hard to take pics as a member of the wedding crew- I guess that’s why you pay somebody else to do it! Here’s our family along with our good friend Alyson. Intercourse, PASparklers- not just for Fourth of July picnics anymore! The two arms in the foreground belong to my niece and nephew.August 9– day after family and out-of-towner gathering at our house. Lititz, PAThat’s the new in-laws sitting on either side of Tam, also their son and his wife and dog- and soon-to-be-son-in-law Tom on the far right.August 10– Early morning brass ensemble gig playing for closing worship at the Central Manor Camp Meeting Association. What a cool place! Most cottages are over 100 years old. Manor, PAThe outdoor churchDinner with the newlyweds after driving them to the airport in Queens, NYC, New York.August 11– a day of chilling in the yard- much needed! Lititz, PAAugust 12– on our annual overnight trip with Mom & Dad. Seeing the world’s largest coffee pot😎 Bedford, PAThe American Airlines Flight 93 Memorial doesn’t make for great photos, but it’s an interesting site and a great tribute to those who fought back with all they had on 9/11. Near Shanksville, PAOn the grounds of the Flight 93 Memorial.August 13– With Tam, Mom & Dad touring a cave that was once an underwater coral reef in the tropics. Fish fossils in west-central PA?!? Nature is wild! Coral Caverns in Bedford, PAAugust 14- I’ve hardly been here this summer and it shows! 🥵 Ephrata, PAAugust 15- Unplanned pool party at Tam’s parents. New Providence, PAAugust 16- A cicada emerging from its exoskeleton on our porch! Lititz, PAAugust 17– Spent a hot afternoon at Hersheypark in the water park area. I didn’t take my phone for obvious reasons so- photo cred to the internet. Hersheypark, PAAugust 18– Dog-sitting Willow while Ally & Alec are on their honeymoon. She can’t roam the yard at night because we have a skunk- so she has to go for a nighttime walk whether she likes it or not. Lititz, PAAugust 19– Barnstormers baseball game with Dad while Mom worked as an usher out in the right field picnic area. Lancaster, PAAugust 20– Snarky Puppy concert with my friend Alex (not pictured) at the beautiful Longwood Gardens.Kennet Square, PAAugust 21– Fever Pitch in our first public gig since last year; on the grounds of an Amish flavored hotel and homestead. Bird-In-Hand, PAAugust 22– D.C. & Co. gig playing a community event for the SoWe group, which supports the seriously angelic work Dave Costarella does for the homeless in our city. Dave is the DC & Co band leader in yellow. Lancaster, PAAt this point I’m probably thinking “I wish I would have worn my Eagles jersey like Darnell did” 😁My man Dave Santana is back on drums after a medical problem had him sidelined since spring! Sounds as good as ever 🤩August 23– house party on the porch with The Funktion Band. Carlisle, PAAugust 24– solo trip to Hersheypark! The Comet is one of the park’s oldest and most popular attractions. I’ve been riding it since I was kid! Hershey, PAAugust 25– the sign we hoped we’d somehow never see- our beloved neighbor Shirley (aka GrandmaMa) is selling her house, which is attached directly to ours. Lititz, PAAugust 26– It doesn’t look like much, but inside this place is a pretty cool little summer theater called The Totem Pole Playhouse. I’m employed here with a week long music gig (see below). Fayetteville, PAThe theater is just inside the “door” of Caledonia State Park, which as you could’ve guessed, is full of trees.August 27– Opening Day of Diamond- The Neil Diamond Tribute. We did 8 shows over 5 consecutive days and all were sold out!! The Totem Pole Playhouse, Fayetteville, PAAugust 28– here’s “Neil”! He sounds amazing!! Standing ovation at every show and he deserved it. The Totem Pole Playhouse, Fayetteville, PA
August 29– Beth, our Fever Pitch band keyboard player, has a farm near the Totem Pole Theater, so I went to visit her and all her critters/animal friends before the show on Friday. Shippensburg, PACan you tell that there are actually 4 alpacas in this pic?
August 30– Neil Diamond show video courtesy of The Totem Pole Playhouse. Fayetteville, PA
The only downside of playing the Diamond show was that I had to miss our first Fever Pitch gig at Hollywood Casino/Penn National- but I got there in time to hear the last few songs and catch this video of Bailey, Beth and the crew. Grantville, PA
August 31– I bet you can’t guess what the Diamond show grand finale song is! 😜 Fayetteville, PA Week’s like this make me feel lucky to be a musician; making great music with talented people (some strangers and some good friends) for audiences that appreciate it. The horn section this week were friends Steve & Faith Shiffer and I. That little head in the background belongs to my photo bombing bassist friend Mike Vitale. 😁

Glad that you got to see Snarky Puppy! I never want to miss them when they come around, but we’d already gotten tickets for an opera in Santa Fe the next day, so the commute would have been brutal…
And…you drove to Bethlehem to get a vegan Wedding Cake? Sentimental favorite bakery?
It was Ryan Speedo Green singing Woton in Die Walkure, so worth the trip. Amy’s sister & husband came up from Phoenix for the weekend and I also got to have lunch with a brother-in-law from a previous life. We saw Trombone Shorty with the New Breed Brass while we were there, and on the way out we stopped in Nashville to tick an item off our bucket list: seeing The Time Jumpers at 3rd & Lindsley, their native habitat.
Ally and Alec’s wedding, the world’s biggest coffee pot, and a Neil Diamond cover gig – you truly were at a Fever Pitch in August, Todd. I had to call in an expert (Mr. D) to spot the 4th alpaca! Love these pitctures!
Love your Blog Todd!

Wow- traveling to Santa Fe for the opera? It must have been an important one!
Bailey discovered the vegan bakery while going to college in Allentown- it’s excellent, so Ally didn’t wanna take any chances with the cake 😁
