Each year, the Delaware Special Olympics hosts, the polar plunge at Rehoboth Beach Delaware. We started going to the beach for a plunge weekend about 10 years ago when my daughter Ally decided that she wanted to participate. We’ve continued going that weekend ever since. The plunge raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Special Olympics and also makes for a fun weekend.

Tammy (wife) and Ally (daughter) have each plunged three times. My other daughter Bailey has zero plunges. I also have never, and probably will never plunge, but I have run the Run To The Plunge 5K for over a decade so at least I’m contributing something!

One of the things I find the most interesting about the whole plunge scene, or the crazy outfits that some people dress up in. Many of them plunge in the costumes. To me, that would make a bad experience worse, but what do I know 🤷🏼‍♂️

After the 4,400 civilian plungers made their splash and headed for the heater, a special group of state patrol and emergency services people took their turn.
