Anybody remember the Three Mile Island nuclear accident back in 1979? I live relatively close to the power plant. Close enough that I remember all of the adults talking about whether or not to evacuate the area until things played out. I was in fourth grade at the time.
In those days, a local band named The Maxwell Project, gained a fair amount of regional fame and notoriety by penning a musical response to the dangerous situation. They called it Radiation Funk.
Years later, the band is still together. I even started playing with them about a year ago. Although they’re mostly known in our area as a cover/dance band, they do have a nice collection of very good original material and recordings, although it’s not all available online. Hopefully that will change.
In the meantime, enjoy Radiation Funk, born in the heat of the Three Mile Island scare.

I was surprised (and a bit disappointed) that Maxwell didn’t include Radiation Funk in their induction set at the CPMAs last Thursday. That said, it was a fine performance.
Also – congratulations to you for gracing that stage two times that evening.

Thanks Bob! And I agree, I was really surprised when radiation Funk was not on the list 🤔

Oh my…if you’d asked me, I would’ve said I didn’t recall the song or the band…only the incident…but thanks to you for snipping in the clip! I DO remember — and how cool, cool, cool that you get to play with them. Do you ever sleep? Thanks, Todd! 😎

Wow-you remember them?! 😎 I wasn’t sure how far their reach went since they were mostly a regional act in eastern PA 😎Nice!

Yeah! It’s funny how musical memories can ‘stick’ like nothing else! I had cousins in and around Ohio and PA at the time and I think the song was one that I heard from a cousin…also named Todd — LOL! 😎😎😎

Man, that music takes me back. It’s the sort of thing I used to dance to back in high school. I’d blow dry my hair (until it stood up and bounced as I moved about), put on some disco clothes, drink a few (or way more than a few), get with my buddies, and go out to where the strobe lights flashed and you could feel the bass of the music vibrating your innards. We’d always drink too much and dance too much and wake up feeling mighty awful the next day. I’d swear off bad living for a few days until the next Friday rolled around…

Hell yeah I remember that! I was in high school in Philly burbs at the time and my Aunt and Uncle raised their family near by three mile island, in Limerick. They still live there. However, I don’t recall this band but I love some good old funk.

Thanks for putting this out, Todd. It reminds me that we should get the Jamaphonic CD on a streaming service. Folks can check out some cuts from that CD on our YouTube page. And a link to the 45 of “Realize” from the 1981 album is on our website. The Maxwell project.com. See you soon! Kat
