It disgusts me every time I see it. I’ve heard that it’s even difficult to give the extra food away to shelters or others because there’s some sort of red tape involved.

Yes…sadly I know a little bit about that and while I “get it” from a food safety point of view, some of the restrictions are silly. Thankfully some food banks are helping out to develop distribution networks — but maybe that’s what the story’s about in the link you provided. I need to take a look! 😉😉😉

It’s the same in the uk. If we have catered functions, they have to throw away all the food after 2 hours.
