Burl Ives says Christmas is “the best time of the year“and he’s right, but not for any of the obvious reasons.

So much of what we associate with Christmas is either fake, overly commercialized, or based on shaky historical data. As Will Ferrel’s buddy the Elf screams, it very well might “sit on a throne of lies”. And yet, Christmas remains as the most powerful holiday on the calendar, and with good reason.

What reason is that?

It’s us.
